It seems a bit odd to be writing a blog post about a scarf on a very hot and sunny afternoon, but before we know it, the evenings will be drawing in and the mornings will have a nip in the air. You'll be thanking me then that I had the foresight to publish this super-quick scarf pattern! Leaves are already falling from the trees in the garden and autumn is just around the corner! This Rainbow Ripple scarf is the perfect accessory to not only keep you nice and cosy on those chilly mornings but will also brighten your wardrobe and cheer you up! How could anyone be miserable with that glorious rainbow of colour snuggled around their neck?!
When I visited Stylecraft HQ last month, I was given a pack of Batik yarn with one ball of each of the shades. The yarn is a DK weight, 80% premium acrylic and 20% wool and comes in 16 beautiful stonewashed colours that go together so well. The balls are 50g and at only £1.99 a ball, you can whip yourself up a rather snazzy scarf relatively cheaply. Take a look at the whole range here ...
I knew that I wanted to knit a ripply scarf for myself, and being a big fan of rainbows, picked out 7 shades that fitted the bill. From the top we have Cherry, Coral, Old Gold, Sage, Violet, Indigo and Plum.
If you prefer something less bright, then there are lots of colour options there. The pattern is very easy to memorise and before you know it, you'll have a beautiful scarf ready for the first cooler days and then feel rather smug as your less-well prepared friends look on enviously!! I chose to add some pompoms onto each end of the scarf as I thought they added to the fun feel. I used a 35mm Clover pompom maker and that made it very simple indeed. If you prefer your scarf naked without pompoms, the ripple pattern gives a rather pretty wavy edge.
You can download the pattern for free from my Ravelry store here. And since it's a Bank Holiday weekend, let's have a bit of a giveaway too! Thanks to the generous peeps at Stylecraft, I can offer one lucky person three - yes! three! - £5 vouchers which can be redeemed at any bricks and mortar yarn shop stocking Stylecraft yarn. So you can buy all the yarn you need to knit your very own Rippling Rainbow scarf! I'm really sorry but these vouchers can only be used in the UK, so if you're from overseas and your name gets picked out, I'll send you a Stylecraft Tote bag and Stylecraft pink flower key ring, so you'll be the envy of all your knitting chums! Please let me know when you leave a comment whether you are in the UK or abroad. I'll leave the competition open until midday on Saturday 10th September and use a random number generator to pick a winner after that. Good luck one and all and may the yarn gods and goddesses smile upon you! xxx

So cute! And just the perfect little project to make with the nights beginning to draw in, even if we are clinging to the last few warm days of summer!
I really like how you've positioned the pompoms btw.
And for the competition - UK resident here!
Your scarf looks so lovely and cosy. Would love the chance to win some of that lovely wool! I'm in the UK. Thanks 😊
I have never thought of adding pompoms to a scarf. I like this idea much more than a fringe. This is definitely a scarf for OUTSIDE a coat where it can be deservedly admired.
I should have added that I am in the UK.
What a beautiful, colourful scarf - that will certainly cheer you up on a cold winter's day. The pompoms are super cute too. Extra yarn is always welcome so, for the competition, I'm a UK resident. Here's to frosty mornings to come. xx
A lovely cosy rainbow 😀 I'm in the UK
This scarf made me smile. How fun it is and how wonderfully it'll stand out on a wintery day.
Love the ripple scarf love the pompoms and love the yarn x
Why have I never thought to put pompoms on a scarf before?? New scarf here I come! UK resident 😊
Beautiful scarf and beautiful yarn. I have been following some of the Blogstars bloggers and have been using Stylecraft yarn for a while now (even though I am in Canada).
Thanks for the giveaway.

What a lovely scarf and super-cute pom-poms. I love Stylecraft yarn and can't wait to try Batik
I've bought some of the batik to knit a cardigan but I'm loving the scarf and definitely need to buy a ball of each colour to knit one ready for the winter.
I'm in the UK
That is so pretty!! Would match my pastel dyed hair too! I'm UK and need a scarf to keep me warm when lollipopping. Would love this 😘
Beautiful scarf, thank you for the pattern. I love the look of this Stylecraft batik yarn. I am from the UK.
Definitely going to be making that one. I wanna win !!!! :) Guess I'll just have to cross everything in sight. I think a batik yarn buying expedition is in the wind. There are very few LYSs around here, so I may have to force myself to travel a wee bit further. Good excuse for an expedition to the uncharted depths of the South East :)
I'll have to look out for this yarn on my upcoming UK trip, the rainbow scarf is really pretty and will definitely brighten up dull days. If I were lucky enough to win a voucher, I can provide a UK address, even though I'm US based.
Thanks for the opportunity.
Brenda

I love your scarf - the colours, the pom-poms, everything! I've been eyeing up the batik yarn since I first saw it and I'm itching to try it. I am a uk redodent
Can you say cheer me up? Perfect accessory to brighten up a cold grey day! Nights (and earpy mornings!) are already cool around here in the South West of England, so this scarf is a must have! Good luck to everyone!
Hi I love the textured look and tonal togetherness of your scarf, it's so lovely I would put down my crochet hook to make this. Thanks for your pattern I've already down loaded so ready to go.
I just love this pattern. So clever! It works perfectly with the yarn. I need to make one! ;-) xx
Would love to win this as a gift for my wife. Lovely pattern, excellent blog
I've only been knitting since the end of last year, but I've fallen in love with Stylecraft's range of yarn. Your scarf pattern shows those colours off so well & would look great on a dull South Coast (UK) day!
