Time to talk about yarn again

The past couple of weeks I have been totally preoccupied with my running and also going back to school, and yarn-related blog posts have slipped a little bit. I'm so sorry. I also realised that I didn't pick a winner for the August giveaway either. Bad josiekitten! You may remember that the lovely Kathryn from CrafternoonTreats very generously donated a kit to crochet a yarn basket.

The random number generator picked out comment 13, butterflybobbins. Congratulations to you, I'll be getting in touch with you on Instagram in the next day or so.

I've got another lovely giveaway for you this month too. When I was at Old Maiden Aunt's studio with Lucia last month, I picked out a skein of yarn to use as a prize. It's a really beautiful mix of colours and I bought three! One for me, one for Snoopydog and one for you! It's 100% superwash merino 4ply weight and the colourway is called 'Like a Hummingbird'. Take a look for yourself, it's gorgeous!

If you'd like to be in with a chance of winning this beauty, all you need to do is leave me a comment and tell me what yarn supplies you'd take to a desert island with you! The giveaway will stay open until midnight on September 30th so there's still plenty of time to enter. Please make sure that it's easy for me to contact you by leaving your Ravelry or Instagram name or leave some other way to get in touch. If I haven't heard from the winner in a week, I'll use the random number generator to pick another name. I'm happy to post worldwide so please do enter. You never know, you might soon be the lucky owner of this skein of squishiness. Good luck one and all!

I dodged the showers yesterday morning and went to my local Parkrun to marshall. Luckily I was stationed in the woods and was protected by all the trees as it rained several times on and off. When the sun was shining, it looked beautiful. There is something about Nation Trust parkland...

I wasn't so lucky later in the day when Snoopydog and I took Oscar out - we both looked like drowned rats by the end of the walk, although Oscar wasn't remotely bothered! I needed a complete change of clothes when I got home!

I took my medal to Mr JK's tree yesterday so I could tell him all about the events of last weekend, although I'm pretty sure that he already knew all about it.

Today I am having a very lazy day. My knee is still sore from the run, so it's feet up on the sofa for me - and yes, it seems that sock season has begun already! These were a favourite pair knit in some Opal yarn last year.

I am playing around with ideas using some of the lovely colours in the Stylecraft Batik yarn range and it's all a lot of fun! Plenty of tea and munchies within reach to keep me going all day. I'm not planning on moving far! xxx

What a lovely giveaway!
To a desert island, I would bring my interchangeable needle set and a drop spindle (in the hope I'd find something to spin into yarn!). If I had time to pack more it would be skeins of fingering or sock weight yarn.

I would take my Hiyahiya interchangeable needles & short circulars, my knitpro crochet hooks, notions, some patterns (for clothes I'd need while I was on the desert island) and an awful lot of yarn! Hmmm, I think I'd take a section of 4 ply yarns and the hooks and needles needed to make floaty shawls and cover ups.
A bodkin and a few stitch markers might come in handy too oh and a nice big waterproof project bag to hold everything.
Thanks for the chance to enter your lovely giveaway.

Ohhh Hummingbirds are my favorite, that yarn definitely fits it's name! I'd probably bring lots of sock yarn and metal needles (so I can't accidentally snap them.

Oooh that yarn is luscious. Desert island knitting would have to be DPNs and lots of sock yarn. It might be hot and the possibilities are endless and will keep me occupied for hours.

Wow that's yarn is beautiful. Well done for running. You've reminded me that I need to get on with making more socks.

I would take all of my yarn stash and hooks to a dessert island, it would last me a life time. Plus a box or 2 of dark chocolate that I could nibble while I crochet.

Definitely some interchangeable needles and lots of 4ply yarn I think, although maybe a bit of Drops Nepal just in case it gets cold a night to make a poncho. CN x

To a desert island I would take my circular needles in small sizes and 100 cm in length, and my stash of sock yarns - to make socks and many other things to wear. I think I could get by with just that. Well done on the running, but do take care of your joints! I'm melindaj on Ravelry.

Congratulations on completing the Great North Run. The yarn looks beautiful.
I would take my double pointed needles (as I've yet to get to grips with magic loop) and loads of fingering weight yarn to make all the socks.

Congratulations again on your amazing run. Mr. JK would have been so proud of you and I love the fact that you took your medal to show him. Great giveaway - I'm more of a knitter now but on a desert island, I'd probably plump for crochet supplies. That way, I could crochet myself a hammock quicker than I could knit one! Hope you enjoyed your relaxing Sunday. xx PS. I'm VeggieMummy on Ravelry too.

Congrats on your running! I love your clothespin idea, so cute.

That skein does look delicious. My castaway case would be full of West Yorkshire Spinners sock yarns, they'd remind me of home as the mill is not so far from where we live in Yorkshire. I'd sit on the beach knitting and when I was rescued I'd have enough socks for everyone, unless it was a cruise ship I suppose. Have a good week, still sunny here, the kitties are just fine and now it's a bit cooler very very naughty.

ikkinlala said...

Wow, that is gorgeous yarn!

Assuming I'd have to be selective (because otherwise I'd take all my knitting supplies), I'd take sock yarn and DPNs, because after this many years I'm still not tired of socks.

I'm NicoleS on Ravelry.

I'd want a tape measure, scissors, and a needle to weave in ends. I'm assuming knitting needles and yarn are a given.

Ooh! That yarn. It would make a gorgeous shawl.
For my desert island trip I'd take supplies to knit a fair isle sweater for me. It's something I've always wanted to do. A spell on my own would be the perfect opportunity. I'm on IG as helenclaire59

I'd take advice from Elizabeth Zimmermann and bring lace weight yarn, needles, and stitch markers - she pointed out that you get the most bang for your buck with lace!

Hmm, I would need a rather large boat to get to this island as I would need all of the yarn and all my hooks and needles to keep me sane - pretty much like being at home then really! It's Sarah35 on Ravelry or you can find me under a pile of yarn and wips on the sofa 😀Xx
