Tour de Fleece Day 7

I made a start on my second braid of fibre today - it's a whopping 10oz of Briar Rose Blue Faced Leicester. It's the braid I won last year when I was spinning with Team Superfleece. The colours are really beautiful. I'm just pulling off shortish pieces, splitting them lengthwise into 5 or 6 pieces and then I'll see what I do with the singles later on. As the weekend is coming up, I'm hoping for a little more spinning time. xxx

Tour de Fleece Day 6

And finally, we have some yarn! I haven't yet given the skein a soak, so it will probably fluff up a little bit more after that, but currently, it's looking like it's a fingering weight yarn and I have about 210 metres to play with. Enough for a cowl I reckon. The colours are gorgeous - they remind me of crushed summer berries. I have some more BFL to start spinning tomorrow, pop back to see my progress. xxx

Tour de Fleece Day 5

Well I didn't quite get as much done today as I'd hoped, but the spinning is completed and all that's left is the plying. I love that part, it's always a nice surprise. Come back tomorrow to meet my skein!

Tour de Fleece Day 3

Pesky school got in the way of spinning today, but I did manage to make a start on the second half of the pink BFL. Mr JK is planning to go for a run first thing tomorrow morning, so I might get up and spin! Stop by tomorrow to see my progress. xxx

Tour de Fleece Day 2

I've finished spinning the first half of the BFL today - it's a little bit thick and thin in places, but I think it will be fine when plied to knit a hat or a cowl.

 

 

I also went rummaging in my boxes of fibre to dig out some rather beautiful BFL that I won in last year's Tour de Fleece. It's from Chris at Briar Rose Fibers and her colours are just glorious. Not too sure quite how to spin it yet - I have 10 ounces, so in theory I could get quite good yardage. Should I spin it as a single, or two ply it, or N-ply? Suggestions please!! I've a couple of days before I'll be ready to start it.  See you tomorrow! xxx

 

 

Tour de Fleece Day 1

I've been up in Derbyshire all week on a trip with the kids, and it has been hard to escape the preparations for the Tour de France. The very road that the hostel was on was part of the route, and yellow 'road closure' signs were in abundance. As we returned to Norfolk yesterday, it was fun seeing all the bunting (some of it knitted jerseys!) that decorated numerous towns and villages on the route. I bet it has been very exciting there today with some spectacular scenery as a backdrop to all the action.

 

I have made a start on this year's spinning. I am spinning with Team Briar Rose Fibers which is an offshoot of Team Superfleece (the team I have spun with previously) - a small, no-pressure group on Ravelry, organised by Chris of Briar Rose. As it's been quite a while since I did some serious spinning, I  decided to start off with some Blue Faced Leicester fibre which was dyed for me by Dana, a Ravelry friend. She gave it to me as part of a swap parcel last year.

 

 

My trusty spinning assistant, Flo, was on hand to lend a paw. I think she missed me while I was away last week and has been shadowing me since my return!

 

I'll carry on spinning this fibre tomorrow - I'm aiming for a 2-ply, fingering weight yarn ultimately. See you tomorrow for a report on day 2. xxx
