Tour de Fleece Day 9

Although I have a gazillion things to do today, I couldn't resist the lure of the spinning wheel this morning. Navajo plying is a very restful process, and with the door open to the garden, I whiled away half an hour, mulling over the events of yesterday. (You'll have to come back tomorrow when I'll tell you all about it!) I'm using my homemade tensioned Lazy Kate which really does work incredibly well. The bobbin spins far more slowly than when I use the Lazy  Kate that is part of my wheel, so I can control the amount of single that's being unwound. That way, it doesn't ping back on itself and start plying in lots of little pigtails! If you want to learn how to N-ply, then this video is fabulous. Sarah makes it look effortless. I can't tell you the number of times I watched this when I was first starting out. Tomorrow is a rest day on the Tour, so I shall use it to catch up with my knitting and perhaps pick out my next fibre for spinning. xxx

PS Bonus points if you spotted Flo flaked out on the table in the garden!

Tour de Fleece Day 8

I snatched a few minutes at the spinning wheel this evening when I got back from a Very Exciting Day Out! Plying has begun. I am Navajo-plying (chain plying) to keep all the glorious colour changes. Come back tomorrow for both a spinning update and to find out what I've been up to!! xxx

Tour de Fleece Day 7

Job done! First bobbin spun, awaiting plying. I'm going to N-ply this to show off the gorgeous colour changes. Needed to get my spinning in early this morning as I am off travelling somewhere rather exciting straight after work today!!  I'll spill the beans on Sunday. xxx

Tour de Fleece Day 6

Only a little spinning today, but almost finished the braid. I reckon that 20 minutes or so tomorrow morning should see it done and dusted! Flo was keen to assist this evening. I'm sure it can't be that comfortable for her! See you tomorrow! xxx

Tour de Fleece Day 5

I enjoyed the peace and quiet of yesterday's early morning spinning so much that I got up as soon as the alarm went off today. One strip of fibre left to spin and then it's decision time; to ply or not to ply?! That is the question! xxx

Tour de Fleece Day 4

Look! My toes co-ordinate with my fibre!! Early morning spinning today. Even Flo couldn't be bothered to stir herself to come and join me! With a bit of luck and a following wind, I might get this braid finished tomorrow. xxx

Tour de Fleece Day 3

More of the same today, loving the richness of the colours and the lustre that the silk gives the yarn. Mr JK is planning to go to the gym first thing tomorrow morning, so I am planning to get some spinning action before work. Let's see! xxx
