Day 1 - Whitby

When the weather forecast said it was going to be sunny all day, we knew straight away where to head to - the coast. Whitby to be precise.

Day 1 - Whitby, moors and Robin Hood's Bay (54)

Following a delicious bacon sandwich for breakfast, we set off across the moors. Breathtaking scenery, made even better when the steam train from Pickering came into view.

Whitby is a seaside town and port, and is full of charm. We climbed the 199 steps up to the abbey ruins and enjoyed the views over the town, as well as exploring the abbey.

The last photo shows the window display in a chocolate shop. Hallowe'en is this coming Friday, and the shops are making the most of Whitby's link to Dracula. The author, Bram Stoker, is said to have found his inspiration for the book Dracula whilst staying in Whitby. Not only that, but the town is hosting a Goth weekend next weekend and the town is already filling up with some interesting characters!

Now we are back in our cottage, relaxing in front of the woodburner whilst planning what is on the agenda for tomorrow. xxx
