Lost mojo ...

... If found, please return to josiekitten ASAP! I am not sure why, but I am feeling very unsettled at the moment. I can’t seem to concentrate on doing anything and just flit from one thing to another without achieving a great deal in the process. It’s not for the want of projects as I have lots of WIPs to occupy me, not to mention my ‘Make 9’ for 2021. I definitely have more than enough gorgeous yarn too. I feel like a difficult child who rejects everything that is suggested with a mutter of ‘boring’ and a heavy sigh combined with a roll of the eyes. Even Flo has started to give me disapproving looks. What has brought this creative slump upon me I have no idea. It’s not as though anything has changed for me, despite the latest UK lockdown, as I’ve been shielding since March anyway. Even the prospect of being in one of the first groups to be vaccinated as I’m in the Clinically Extremely Vulnerable group hasn’t helped; I think that even once I’ve had the vaccine, I will still have to continue to take precautions because it isn’t known what kind of immune response people who are immunosuppressed will have anyway. I’m also concerned that my treatment will be delayed because of Covid. I know that my local rheumatology consultant is working on the Covid wards so has a lot less time available for her usual patients. I guess that there are lots of contributing factors to help explain my current mood. If you have any suggestions of instant gratification projects or activities, books or TV programmes to rekindle my spark, please let me know. Thank you. Stay safe and well. xxx

You have an awful lot on your plate Helen. You must be exhausted after shielding for so long on top of being worried about your health too. Do be kind to yourself and don't expect too much. Have you got some nice light reading to enjoy? Or a film you can watch (without knitting at the same time)?

I hope that you feel a bit better soon.

Love from Jane x

A lot of people are finding it tough at the moment and you have had it harder than most. I can't imagine shielding for nearly a year; no wonder you are listless. Maybe take a break from crafting for a few days. You may find that you miss it and return to it with enthusiasm. We have just enjoyed 'Staged' on iPlayer, starring David Tennant and Michael Sheen. There are 2 series now and we found them both hilarious. I also enjoy Audible for those times when actually reading a book seems too much effort. Sending virtual hugs your way. xx

My best suggestions:
When my children would be in those ‘nothing seems interesting’ moods, I’d suggest they clean their rooms. Like magic they would suddenly find something else to do.
I’ve been watching youtube videos for months by now. I can knit/crochet and be entertained at the same time.
As a last resort, try baking chocolate chip cookies or brownies. Just the scent improves my mood.

We all have a lot to cope with at present and you more than most. We are all allowed off days, crafting is a hobby not a duty. Your enthusiasm will be back, meantime keep admiring your stash, take it easy on yourself, maybe pampering treatments or long relaxing baths, you don’t always have to be productive. That is my advice and I am very wise.

I like to make a cup of tea, sit back and just inhale the scent. Give yourself over to whatever you are experiencing, without judgement (easier said than done, I know). Trying to force it has never worked for me. When the lockdown started last spring I had a hard time knitting for some reason, but I did become obsessed with making tiny college cards for all my friends. Then the knitting desire came back. You’ll get there too when you’re ready.
