Alder socks

I'm excited to share my latest sock pattern, 'Alder', which has just been published in issue 161 of The Knitter magazine. I was so excited when my copy of the magazine arrived and I couldn't wait to see how they had styled the socks for the photoshoot. I love how they show them off! I have to pinch myself when I see my name in print too! Squee! Excited? Me? Just a little bit! Issue 161 of The Knitter is on sale now but you can also buy it from their website here as either a print copy or a digital copy.

The sock is knit toe up and features a short row heel and toe, with a lace and garter stitch tree motif which travels up the foot and leg. The final repeat of this motif is embellished with silver beads. The cuff is finished off with a picot bind off. I really enjoyed developing this design from my initial ideas and was delighted when Sophie from Pixie Yarn agreed to dye up a sock set for me. Sophie works magic in her dye pots and achieved exactly what I had pictured in my mind! The sock set is called 'Winter Boughs' and you can buy your own set from Sophie's shop if you would like to. She is selling it in both a superwash merino nylon mix and also a merino nylon with added stellina for extra sparkle. You can see them in her shop here. I hope that you like my design - let me know if you knit yourself a pair. Stay safe and well until next time! xxx

Oh wow they are beautiful, how clever you are. I am so impressed that you are spending your time being creative, congratulations, you should be very pleased with yourself, I will say nothing about my own lack of needle activity lately.

They're fantastic, Helen. I love the design and the colours show them off perfectly. Well done you. I bet Flo was also proud to see her mummy's name in print! :O) xx

The socks are lovely and I really wanted to make then as soon as I saw these in The Knitter. I've never tried the cast on before and the instructions were really clear. A lovely design.
